Spring Walks April 2011

The first day we found some mushrooms Troy and the girls were out walking around and found a few mushrooms.

They noticed this little birds nest under a rock overhang. The nest was too close to the top to look in but the camera showed that there was an egg in the nest. We did not stay in the area long so the mother could return and keep her egg warm.

The morels that we found this year were few and far between - not like some years when you find a number of them in the same area.

This year Troy found a "beefsteak' mushroom like he used to find when he was growing up. There were some pretty flowers out in the woods too.

One afternoon all four of us went out looking for mushrooms. We walked in one area without any luck so Troy carried us all across the creek and we walked up the next hill only finding some inedible mushrooms. But then just as it was getting dark we found several morels in an area we thought didn't look too promising. It is always good to find new places where the morels grow.
