Trip to Oregon December 2011

Troy's last trip of the year was to Portland, OR. This was his third trip to Oregon this year and his second to Portland. Because Troy could not get home before Sabbath started he decided to stay out west and return later. He asked Ann if she wanted to come out and stay with him or stay home. Troy's mom agreed to watch the girls so Ann decided to go to Oregon as well. The girls pleaded to come along too and finally they were allowed to come. When the tickets came Ann and the girls looked them over and Elizabeth noticed that she was not sitting by Ann or Abigail. She was concerned but when Troy send his itinerary Elizabeth was much relieve to see that she was sitting by her daddy. We left really early 5:50 AM flight out of St. Louis and we got to Portland just before 11:00 AM. We ended up with a Chrysler 300 rental car which Ann and Troy both liked to drive.

We took the MAX downtown to see some sights that afternoon before Troy had to start working. Elizabeth didn't like the MAX too well but we did have a good walk around downtown and a trip in the tram.

There was a good view of Mt. Hood from the tram but our camera still has a piece of lint that we do not seem to be able to dislodge that shows up in some pictures.

Ann and the girls went sight seeing the first day. It was really windy in one place and the girls were nearly blown over. They saw a number of waterfalls.

At one of the falls they saw some other tourists struggling with the icy walkways so they didn't climb up to that part of the trial.

It was cold and not the busy tourist season so there were no lines. The girls also toured a mansion and Ann was really taken by this strange shower which not only sprayed from above like normal showers but the sides and also up from the floor. When they went to the guesthouse the tour guide had Ann play some Christmas music since the CD music was not really seasonal. One evening we went and visited Troy's friends, Annie Moorman and Mike Yurconic who live in Portland. We had a good visit and enjoyed supper with them and their dog Boo. They suggested some other places for Ann and the girls to go visit while Troy was working.

The girls did enjoy the Japanese gardens Mike and Annie suggested but they did wish that the fish would have moved around a little more.
