Trip to Washington December 2011
After Troy finished working on Friday we all headed toward the Tri-Cities where he used to live. At first it was a pretty scenic drive but as we travled beyond the mountains it became cold and foggy. Kennewick had changed a lot and Troy had a difficult time finding where he used to live but eventually he found it. His apartment in Pasco looks rundown since when he lived there. Troy took us out to the edge of where he used to work but it was still somewhat secured so we turned around. Unfortunately, it was very foggy so we could not see Rattlesnake Ridge or the tops of many of the large hills. We stayed in Yakima and used some of Troy's many hotel points. There were not many guests in the hotel and the clerk made a special invitation for us to come down at cookie time. We were really impressed because she made some cookies especially for us that didn't have any chocolate chips in them. The next day we went to church in Yakima and were invited over to a Kit and Gaylord Case's house for lunch. The food was very good and they even grew the potatoes. It was really foggy as you can see from the pictures below. The fog was actually freezing on to objects but thankfully
the roads were not slick. From Yakima we drove up and over White Pass which was clear. The clouds finally broke and we were able to see Mt. Rainier clearly. There were elk in a number of places but none of our pictures of them were clear. We made a short stop to visit with one of Troy's high school classmates and her husband that live in Eaton. Becky and Charlie are in the process of rehabbing a house and they have done a lot of work. They treated up to supper at a very good Mexican restaurant in town. We traveled about another 2 hours to Vancouver where we stayed the last night. As we were checking in online we noticed that Troy got upgraded to first class and Elizabeth was alone. At the airport the gate agent was able to move Ann and the girls all into one row which had much more leg room and Troy didn't have to move out of first class. We got home late and Troy even slept in before he went to work that next morning.
