Bees Pollinating Blueberries 2011

The bees were working the many flowers out in the blueberry patch.

.

There are thousands of flowers in the patch right now. You can see some of the flowers have fallen off and what will become the blueberry is left. Some flowers have brown spots on the side which is the place where a bumblebee had made a hole in the side of the flower so that it can get to the nectar without going through the throat of the flower.

Some of the honeybees have figured out that they also can get nectar through the bumblebee holes in the flowers.

Here are a couple of shots of the honeybees collecting nectar but not pollinating the blueberry flowers.

This bumblebee has some pollen on her back legs and the bumblebee in the next picture is making a hole in the flower.

Here is a bumblebee not using the hole in the side of the flower but actually pollinating the flower as she gets a drink of nectar.
