We were going to camp and canoe with Troy's brother Michael and his family. However, Ann thought that we should go camping ourselves before they arrived. We headed for Meramec State Park and set up our tent, cooked supper and called it a night. However, early in the morning Troy and then some of the rest of us were awakened by this cicada that thought the back side of our tent would be a great place to call.

Michael and his family arrived along with Troy's dad and we helped them set up camp. They had a late lunch.

We went for a hike around Fisher cave since it was closed because of a quarantine for white nose syndrome. There were a number of smaller caves along the hillside. We found some fungus growing in one place. We thought it might be edible but didn't take a chance. After the walk we stood in the entrance to Fisher cave and enjoyed the cool air before heading back to camp.

After our hike we built a fire and cooked supper. Everyone got a chance to cook over the open flames and we enjoyed our meal together.

At our campsite we had a visitor in the woods just behind our tents. This deer was there for more than 30 minutes. It was clearly not afraid of us.

We do not have any pictures of the canoe trip. We did find the cave along the way that the cashier told us about. The water coming out of that cave was very cold but we could not go in because of the quarantine for white nose syndrome.

After we canoed we broke camp and headed back to our house. The kids played on the swing set for a while. We showed Michael's family the antlers we found in our yard earlier this year. Troy's dad shows Sophie how they fit on the deer and you can see her reaction...
