June 2014

June started off with Troy in San Antonio at the industrial hygiene conference. He met with a number of former college classsmates, former coworkers and friends. While he was there he took some interesting pictures of some flowers along the Riverwalk.

He also took several pictures of the Alamo. Below is a wary mother duck as Troy takes the picture. Troy also found a project for all those aluminum cans he like to collect and recycle.

Abby finally got her braces off in June. She got her retainer so all that work does not come undone.

While Troy was away one of his colonies of honeybees swarmed and ended up in some empty bee boxes he had near the trailer. He had to move them the night before he headed to Alaska. When he got to the beeyard where he was going to move them he found that another swarm had taken up residence in the boxes of a colony that had died over the winter. We are very thankful for those swarms to replace some of the colonies we lost over the past very cold winter.

We celebrated Abby's 14th birthday a couple of days early because Troy had a business trip to Anchorage, AK. Of course, Abby's birthday is not complete until we pick some blueberries. We were not sure if the patch was ready to open or not but after picking just two rows and harvesting almost twenty pounds of blueberries we decided it was time to open the U-pick season. Troy went to Fort Worth, TX for another trip where he stayed at the famous Stock Yard Hotel and he also experienced some flash flooding.

During June Ann led the VBS program at church.

Troy and the girls found a very interesting caterpillar when they were out for a walk. We received a swarm call and Troy collected a swarm from an old piece of farm equipment.

Troy finished trapping the bees he started removing in May. You can see that the bait hive is very full of bees and it was good to have the screen to enclose the hive.
